Do you remember how "Monica" from F.R.I.E.N.D.S was obsessed with the little details? Now, imagine if she became a front-end engineer somehow… Do you think this is you?

Okay, we want to hire you if you:

    • are an absolute expert in JavaScript, including vanilla code

    • have rock-solid skills in building SPAs and PWAs using React.js and redux

    • have experience with SSR technologies and Next.js specifically

    Your typical day at DealTracker

You will be working in a small team of A-players, reporting directly to our Tech Lead and our CEO. You'll be taking the lead on the front-end side of things. We built a proof of concept using React/redux. You'll be working on turning it into a proper PWA.

So, on a typical day, you will:

    • build and scale new features on the front-end
    • improve and fix existing functionality
    • take care of your personal staging environment

So, what will we build together?

DealTracker is a real-time deal aggregator that collects deals from all the major online retailers in the US and ranks them based on factors like current and historical prices across different stores, product reviews, brand reputation, etc.

It's also a social platform for curated shopping, where people can create shareable product collections in a Pinterest-like fashion. They can also follow their favorite brands and product categories for personalized deal discovery.

We didn't launch the product yet, but you can demo our old PoC here to get an idea. [NOT PUBLIC - Please, don't share it]

Are you the real deal? Let's talk!

If you can build kickass PWAs with Silicon Valley standards and want to join a team of A-player hackers, now is the time to apply…

  • Openly, Inc.
PROBABLY NO LONGER AVAILABLE.Required: US only.

First off, you DO NOT need a math or insurance background to be AMAZING at this job. Anyone with a good understanding of the typical web stack and Go should apply. We're a pretty friendly bunch. We like working with other friendly & open folks who like to code.

We’re hiring for an engineering role. Your primary responsibility will be to develop the core systems that power our insurance products.

Some of the stuff we'd love help with:

    • Integrating with data sources to provide real-time information on hundreds of data points; everything from property characteristics, such as roof construction material, to weather-related data that help us predict flood risk or potential hailstorm damage.

    • Turning statistical models developed in R into production-quality code that can make pricing decisions, assessing a customer’s risk. Again, you DO NOT need to know R or any statistics or post-high-school level math.

    • Building a smart qualifier that decides if an applicant is eligible to be insured, while also making sure to avoid purchasing expensive data for a lost cause.

    • Contributing to important architectural and operational decisions like microservices vs. monoliths, deployment techniques, technologies, policies, etc.

    • Building an API so third-party resellers can purchase insurance from us programmatically.

    • And tons of future projects: machine learning for fraud detection, satellite/aerial imagery processing, IOT integration, etc.

    Requirements:

    • Gotta be a US-resident. Sorry.

    • Computer science, or engineering college degree or equivalent experience.

    • You’re proficient in Go/Golang.

    • You’re pretty comfortable in the web tech stack (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, some flavor of backend web server).

    • You need to have excellent communication skills.

We’re headquartered in Boston but we have people that work in Southern California and Ann Arbor, Michigan. We welcome fully remote employees, or if you want to work in the Ann Arbor, MI or Boston, MA offices, that's great too.

Compensation is a mix of competitive salary and equity. We offer full benefits (medical, dental, vision) and contribute to your 401K.

    Our interview process:

    1. A couple of one-on-one phone/VC calls with our engineering team. We want to get to know you, learn about your career goals, your background, your interests, and tell you as much about what we're working on as you can stand.

    2. We give you a technical project (in Go) that you can work on at your own pace, over a week or weekend. It typically takes 3-4 hours. It's not a puzzle, riddle, or intended to trip you up. There are a few interesting ways to approach it--we primarily want to understand how you think through challenges and the quality and organization of your code.

    3. We go through your coding project together so we can all get comfortable giving and responding to feedback and support.

    4. You may meet a few other folks on the team that are excited to get to know you.

    5. You're hired.

  • Binary Evolution
    PROBABLY NO LONGER AVAILABLE.

Hey! Yes you, the amazing developer that is looking for a great place to work.

Do you want to work in a well organized, fast paced (but low pressure) environment where your expertise is valued and leveraged? Do you love a realistic challenge with great clients where your efforts are appreciated and make a real difference? We want you to push yourself, and others, to operate efficiently and effectively to develop industry leading applications for the web and mobile markets.

What do you mean by “Organized"?

No TPS reports here! We have a well defined, internal project management and development cycle that we use to deliver on time and on spec. You get to focus on what you love to do and we remove a lot of the frustrations that would distract you from being the web ninja you know you are. We also believe in building tools to make the work day easier. As a member of our production team you get to identify areas where our R&D team can build better systems to make what you do every day easier. That leaves you time to take things to the next level, rather than rewriting that same code for the 15th time. You will work with the best tools, clear specifications, and room to do what you do best.

Okay, but how would this work? I like where I live.

Great! We hope you do. If you don’t you can go where you want to go. We believe where you choose to live is a personal choice, not one we should make for you. We are passionate about our team members enjoying life and taking time for what they love to do. Our philosophy is that a happy team member is a productive one. To that end we offer all kinds of extras.

    • Beach accessible, no suits and ties - If you love the mountains, the beach, or the city, you can work where you feel most comfortable. We believe that remote is productive and are happy to have self motivated people that can give their best where ever they feel the most comfortable.
    • Health, Vision, Dental, and Life Insurance - Competitive rates and we cover most of your cost
    • 401K - Competitive retirement plans with self managed or advisor managed options
    • Flexible Time - Delivering work on time is critical. Beyond that, we realize not everyone works best 9-5. Some people like the quiet of the early morning, others are night owls. A few like to work on the weekends and golf on Monday. If you can get work done we can find ways to flex hours (within reason) so that you can work when you work best, and play when you play best.
    • Competitive Salary & Work-Life Balance - We reward you for your experience and effort without crazy work days. unrealistic expectation, or burnout.
    • Equipment and Tools -  We provide cutting edge machines and best-in-class software. If you prefer to own your own machine, we provide financial sharing as well.

    Skills & requirements

Okay - I’m intrigued; what would my job role be?

You would work daily with CSS, HTML, JavaScript, and Smarty templates (with a little PHP). We are looking for a fast learner with an aptitude for problem solving, writing clean code, and a strong desire to deliver an excellent user experience. You would also work closely with the project manager, UI/UX, and QA teams to ensure overall production quality and timeliness. If elegant templates, clean division in code and styling, and flexible usability make you smile, you may be exactly who we are looking for.

What other skills could I bring to the table in this role?

    • Knowledge of PHP, MySQL and other similar web and mobile technologies
    • Self motivated. We don’t micro manage, but that means you need to be able to take direction and get things done without needing that manager standing over you waiting for TPS reports. We don’t want to be that guy.
    • Experience with source control (GIT) and agile methodologies
    • Excellent communication skills for interacting with co-workers and clients
    • A good sense of humor and the ability to handle the occasional bad pun or 80’s movie references. It may be last on the list but may be the most important. We can teach you the finer points of a technology, but we need someone who can work well on a team, enjoy making cool stuff, can get things done, and generally is fun to work with.
